Crossroads

‘Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.”‘ Jeremiah 6:16a

How many crossroads do we come to daily? I was talking with a student the other day about choices. We choose what to wear, what to eat, when to wake up, when to go to sleep, when to study, etc. So obviously crossroads/decisions are not anything new to us. Choices have been around since the beginning of time as Jeremiah states above.

Yet, what underlies all of these decisions? For me, I believe it’s Colossians 3:16-17, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Some decisions are simple…what do I want to eat for dinner? But Colossians 17 says that there is no small decision, because we are to do everything in His name. It even outlines the steps to take in making a decision.

1. Spend time in His presence and dwell there deeply. 2. Live in community with people who will speak truth into your life and hold you to account. 3. Worship Him regularly. 4. Be grateful in all situations and circumstances. 5. Remember that you and I are representing Him in everything that we do.
