A Cord of Three Strands

Lauren was kind enough to give me my challenge for this month. “#122 Scrapbook/journal.” I decided to create the photo book that I owe my parents.

My parents have been married for 45 years. Obviously, we weren’t able to have a large celebration, but we were able to have a great time with immediate family celebrating all that my parents have built.

They met in college and have been together ever since. While they have been married 45 years, they’ve been together for 48. They actually met my mom’s first weekend of college (only after my grandfather told her not to get serious with anyone right away, ha)! They dated throughout college and got married a month after my mom finished her last semester of college.

Last November, family and friends sent letters and notes celebrating Mom and Dad’s anniversary. We, as a family, were able to sit around and read through the notes. Some were from childhood friends who were in their wedding, others were from family who don’t live close. Several sent photos and one dear family friend still had the wedding invitation and program. I’ve scanned all these notes and cards and put them into a photo book. It was a joy to see how much my parents are loved!

As I was working on their photo book, I was reminded of Ecclesiastes 4:12b, “A threefold cord is not quickly broken.” My parents have sought to have the Lord be the center of their relationship. They’ll be the first to tell you that the Lord’s grace and direction has gotten them to this 45th year of marriage.

It is an honor to have them as my mom and dad! I hope someday to have a marriage that I can give to the Lord the way my parents have!
